Rotary Club of Calgary Chinook
Historical Review
The Rotary Club of Calgary Chinook was developed 1n 1976 as a result of an expansion plan to add an additional Club to Rotary District 536 (now District 5360). The Development of the Chinook Club was sponsored by the Rotary Club of Calgary and the Rotary Club of Calgary South, through the special effort of four members from these Clubs, affectionately referred to as the "Godfathers". These Rotarians were: Past District Governor Curly Galbraith, George Robins, Chuck Porter and Ward Tennis.
The Club operates under bylaws (amended from time to time) and Constitution established and approved by RI in August of 1976. The Rotary Club of Calgary Chinook was admitted to membership in Rotary International on March 14th, 1977. At a special ceremony held at the Palliser Hotel on April 12th, 1977, presentation of the Charter was made by District Governor Harold Allen to Charter President Greg McLellan. There were thirty Charter members at the time of admission to Rotary International. Three additional members were added to the Club during the evening event.
The Club is a mix of both male & female members representing a wide variety of professions & business categories . The Club Offers the opportunity to assist in the identity, & support with financial & social needs, of communities locally & throughout the world .
The world of Rotary has a club service membership of 1.4 million in over 46,000 clubs including the 13 clubs serving Calgary & area .
The Rotary Club of Calgary Chinook became the 49th Club in District 5360. Listed below are the remaining two of the original thirty Charter Members who are still active Members of the Club in 2023 (46 years of continued service to their community):
