Like Rotary, Amarok Society believes basic education for all is critical to humanity realizing its potential. Today, 1 in 4 children grows up illiterate, and 1 in 3 has no opportunity for meaningful education – and that figure hasn't budged in a decade. UNESCO calls it an Education Crisis. New approaches are needed. As you may recall, Amarok Society does something very different. Rather than building schools, we teach illiterate mothers to become (volunteer) teachers of children. In each of our locations, we teach 25 mothers in rented shacks in megacity slums. Each mother then operates, under our supervision, her own little school, teaching at least 5 children every day. These women become powerful catalysts of positive social change are also moving thousands of children at any time from destitution to a life of hopeful possibility.
