Committee 5/10
Looking at the upcoming meeting schedule, you will note the reference to 5/10.  What is that all about you ask?  The following will outline what the project is all about and more will be talked about it at upcoming meetings.  Take it away PE David........

Committee 5/10
In the early fall of 2015, President Dale asked David Wartman and Alex Soutar to jointly lead a committee focused on renewing the Strategic Plan.  The mandate included both education and data gathering components with a focus on club members.  The committee came together in the late fall and included Dave Saunders, Evelyn Stewart, Dawn Rennie, Bill Churchward, Ron Smith and Rob Wolfson.

As we considered our task it was decided that the best way to proceed would be to provide two sessions for club members at which the issues facing Chinook and Rotary generally would be raised; and that following that a number of focus groups would be held with members in order to obtain feedback related to what members wanted the club to look like in the future.  Once we complete our data gathering process, we will then turn to rethinking the strategic plan in an effort to ensure that the future of the club reflects the understanding and wishes of our membership.

Our process will be as follows:
  • Program #1     -           February 2
  • Program #2     -           February 9
  • Focus Groups -           February 16
Lists will be circulated and members will be asked to sign up for a focus group and participate in the process of defining the future direction for Chinook Rotary.

Polio - We are this Close!

During a speech to Rotary leaders in February 1985, then Rotary President Dr. Carlos Canseco announced what he considered “the biggest news in Rotary” — the commitment to help control polio worldwide.

Since that day, Rotary’s dedication to the global eradication of polio has remained constant. 2015 marks the 30th anniversary of PolioPlus and three decades of progress and challenges the program has faced.

Today we celebrate an exciting milestone on the road to polio eradication. The World Health Organization has declared Nigeria polio-free and removed it from the list of polio-endemic countries. This means there are no longer any polio-endemic countries in Africa, and only two endemic countries remain in the world.

This announcement comes on the heels of another important landmark earlier this week. One of the three strains of wild poliovirus (Type 2) was declared eradicated on 21 September, and we will soon pass three years without a case of Type 3. This means that only one type of the wild poliovirus continues to circulate.

After thirty years of dedication, Rotary’s dream of consigning polio to history may soon be realized.

Bowling Tournament
After a long hard fought competition, the following Chinookers emerged victorious.!!

The Chinook Rotary Kingpin (most improved in game 2 from their first game score) was David Wartman. +52.

The Big Shooter (high score) was Garth Plunkett at 184.

The third game we had a Team Competition and the winning team was Stephen Pick, Anne Pick, Anthony Tonkinson and Garth Plunkett

Luckily we could all wind down at Limericks after the event.

Trophies were presented to the winners, and yes, a grudge match is being planned (maybe 10 pin this time?!?)
